<em>Tanti auguri</em> to Christoph Luitpold Frommel

Christoph Luitpold Frommel celebrates his 90th birthday on September 25, 2023. Both in its subject and in its methodology, his research on Renaissance architecture revolutionized the scholarly field. Frommel was born in Heidelberg and spent many formative years at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History; first as a fellow, then as assistant, and finally as its director.  more

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Hermann Schlimme, our esteemed colleague for many years. Hermann Schlimme was a research associate at the Bibliotheca Hertziana from 1998 to 2016. more

2022 was marked by the devastating invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops. Millions of Ukrainians had to flee their country, among them many art scholars and artists. We immediately joined the #ScienceForUkraine initiative and welcomed five Ukrainian and two Russian art scholars threatened by the war. more
