Mauro Staccioli: Cementing an Artistic Legacy
Research exhibition curated by Marica Antonucci
Mauro Staccioli: Cementing an Artistic Legacy (18 October 2023 – 19 January 2024) examines the work of Mauro Staccioli through a selection of archival materials. The exhibition is curated by Marica Antonucci.
The exhibition Mauro Staccioli: Cementing an Artistic Legacy | Mauro Staccioli: Consolidare un’eredità artistica brings together over thirty objects, comprising works of art and archival materials related to the sculptural practice of Italian artist Mauro Staccioli (1937- 2018), many of which have never been exhibited publicly. Drawn from the artist’s archive, and part of a broader digitization project carried out by the Bibliotheca Hertziana and the Archivio Mauro Staccioli, the materials on display offer fresh insights into both the artist’s creative process and the reception of his work during the 1970s and 1980s. It was during this time the artist developed his so-called “sculpture-interventions”—large temporary, site-specific constructions made of cement and iron meant to stimulate critical reflection of one’s surroundings. Mauro Staccioli: Cementing an Artistic Legacy | Mauro Staccioli: Consolidare un’eredità artistica reanimates a selection of these largely ephemeral projects by showcasing a variety of items such as sketches, plans, maquettes, photographs, working notes, and annotated reviews. In so doing, the exhibition sheds new light on Staccioli’s unique contribution to postwar sculptural practice.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday 09.00-19.00
