Research Grants
The Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History is committed to promoting research projects for scholars at various career levels. Funding offers and contracts are aimed not only at PhD students, postdoctoral graduates and professors (Rudolf Wittkower and Richard Krautheimer Fellows), but also at museum researchers, media representatives and artists. Doctoral and postdoctoral candidates are actively involved in designing the department's research program. The funded research projects complement the thematic focuses of the Institute's research departments. The offers are publicized regularly through the various Institute's information channels (Newsletter) and other specific newsletters.
The departments offer a wide range of training courses in the form of laboratory work, workshop discussions, reading seminars, field seminars, excursions and study courses, all of which are geared to the main research areas. The scientific group leaders of the research departments support the doctoral candidates in an advisory capacity. The duration of funding varies.
Students of art history or related disciplines can apply for an internship at the Bibliotheca Hertziana.
