"Neapolis urbs ad verissimam effigiem […] nuper expressa" (Theti 1560)

The very title of this first copper engraved plan of Naples announces its claim to be a "most true representation" of the city. Made by the local military architect Carlo Theti, it shows the new image of the city shortly after the urbanistic interventions of the first viceroys. The frontal view, which is not true to scale, and the schematic representation belie the topographical precision of the plan, which is also reflected in the very detailed legend with 158 entries.
