However, the anti-imperialist imperative and the Third World agenda and
visual arsenal of the Tricontinental went beyond these spaces reverberating on
the visual politics of the artists around the world from 1968 onwards. Visual
models, collective practices, artistic and curatorial dispositive and modes of
action circulated throughout the Atlantic, connecting artistic and political
projects from distant cities such as Paris, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile,
Venice, Madrid or Lisbon.
Paula Barreiro López is Full Professor of
contemporary art history at the Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès and member of
the FRAMESPA. She is the Head Researcher of the international platform MoDe(s)
(Decentralised Modernities). Her research focuses on cultural networks and
politics in Spain, Western Europe and Latin America during the Cold War as well
as the diverse and divergent developments of modernities within an increasingly
globalised world. Her latest publications are Compagnons
de lutte (Maison des Sciences de l'Homme 2023), Revolver el tiempo (Bellaterra, 2023 with María Ruido), Atlántico
Frío: Historias transnacionales del arte y la política en los tiempos del
telón de acero (Brumaria, 2019), Avant-garde Art and Criticism in
Francoist Spain (Liverpool University Press, 2017. Her last book won the Pierre Daix Award of the
Collection Pinault d'Art Contemporain.
